Marvel's Road to Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars — Every Confirmed Date, Delay and Cast Member So Far

Marvel Studios' Phase Six was always going to end with two Avengers movies. What's changed repeatedly since the plan was first announced is when. Both "Avengers: Doomsday" and "Avengers: Secret Wars" have moved dates at least once, the gap between them has widened, and the surrounding slate of "untitled" Marvel films has been reshuffled more than once along the way. This page tracks where things actually stand right now and updates whenever Disney or Marvel change the schedule again.

Why both dates moved

Avengers: Doomsday was originally dated for May 1, 2026, matching the spring slot every prior Avengers team-up film had used going back to the first Avengers in 2012. Disney and Marvel moved it to December 18, 2026 to give the visual-effects-heavy production more time following the completion of principal photography in 2025, and to give the follow-up film room to breathe rather than crowding both into the same calendar year. The new date also puts Doomsday in the same pre-holiday frame that Spider-Man: No Way Home used in December 2021 — a slot Marvel and Sony have both had success with before.

Secret Wars shifted along with it, moving from May 7, 2027 to December 17, 2027, which keeps the roughly twelve-month gap between the two Avengers films that Marvel had originally planned, just pushed later across the board. That timing also echoes the studio's own Infinity War/Endgame playbook, where the two halves of a saga-ending story released almost exactly a year apart.

Who's confirmed so far

Marvel used a livestream event to reveal a large share of the Avengers: Doomsday cast, confirming Robert Downey Jr. returning to the franchise as Doctor Doom rather than Tony Stark, alongside Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Vanessa Kirby, Tenoch Huerta Mejía, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Kelsey Grammer, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Joseph Quinn, David Harbour, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Channing Tatum and Pedro Pascal, among others — a roster that pulls from the current Avengers lineup, the Fantastic Four cast, and the X-Men franchise from 20th Century Fox's earlier films. Secret Wars' cast has not been formally announced, though Marvel has historically waited until closer to a film's marketing push to confirm a full Avengers-scale ensemble.

The rest of the Phase Six calendar

Outside the two Avengers films, Phase Six's confirmed theatrical slate is narrower than earlier internal schedules suggested. The Fantastic Four: First Steps opened July 25, 2025, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day followed on July 31, 2026 — a one-week shift from its original date to avoid a direct collision with Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey. Several "untitled Marvel" placeholders that once sat on Disney's calendar for February and November 2026, and July and November 2027, have moved, been reassigned to other Disney productions, or remain unconfirmed as of this writing; we'll update this section as Marvel gives any of them an actual title.
